Work

Here's a selection of some of my productions throughout the years. I don't mind too much which genre I am working in - there's so much to discover out there! I love listening to people telling their very own stories, no matter what vocabulary they use. And if the song speaks, everything will fall into place and I’ll figure out what it takes to get the message across and make the performance shine.

That reflects quite much in the methods and techniques I use during production: In all my priorities, I'll put the artist and his performance first. I can get quite mad about getting the vibe right in the recording room before starting and bringing people to their limits to get what we need. According to the people I worked with, I'm quite good at that. Having that captured and being on the way to the mixing desk, I like adding texture, depth and spice through some additional bits and pieces like (weird) instruments and percussion, further vocal arrangements… I’ll always have an arsenal of stuff and ideas ready to add wherever and whenever needed.

To get big picture right, I am a friend of getting involved early in the process: Shared preproduction, exchanging demos and ideas, listening to great music, attending rehearsals, going out for drinks,… whatever possible, it’s great to get the creative process started to develop a common ground with the artist before hitting the studio where time is precious and limited.

Selected Projects

Page, a song by Electric Horseman on Spotify

Electric horseman - page

First single of the debut EP of this young band. Great songs and gread sounds. Fun was had in the studio: Tracked almost entirely in a live session - it took the shelter of night, candle light, red wine and a 1962 AC30 to get this one straight. Goal was to get the vibe of your favourite old vinyls but to add the depth and space of modern production. Love the result!

Karussell, a song by mattes on Spotify

mattes - karussell EP

The songs of this young German band have depth and that intriguing playfulness. Following the mainly classic singer-songwriter four-piece pre-production, the goal was to achieve the richness of contemporary arrangements. So we played around with many additional textures and instruments while focusing on organic sound sources to preserve authenticity.

Coming Back Home, a song by The Fake Empire on Spotify

THE FAKE EMPIRE - COMING BACK HOME

This tune was created together with a friend (and lots of booze) in one single night. It was thought to be an intro for a project to follow. Although that never happened, I still love the dark vibe that emanates from it. And that old DDR Vermona synth through a tweaked Fender Deluxe II just kills. Also one of the few tracks that features me as artist and singer.

Say It Aga!n, a song by Beni Fahr on Spotify

Beni fahr - say it aga!n

18 year old Beni walked into the studio just with some rough piano demos, but his voice had that spark that really got me. We picked this song he wrote a while ago to produce his first single. He was really in to that Dark-Pop stuff at that time, we exchanged a lot of music and tried to create that sonic language of his together. Good times.

Gellifaa, a song by Equatic Vibe on Spotify

equatic vibe - kulathah

in 2016 I was asked to produce an album of this Maldivian pop band. Although we recorded in a really small room in the dense capital city Malé, I tried to track as much as I could live to capture the amazing energy that was there between the five band members. The beautiful blend of Western, Hindi and Caribbean sound aesthetics of their songs is quite unique!

Cages We Built, a song by Masheé on Spotify

masheé - cages we built eP

What was meant to be just a demo recording for the artist eventually became a full EP production. The energy of the songs and the artist was in the room so we just kept on going and went a bit mad for a few weeks with the instruments, effects and synths in the studio. By the way, at least half of the synth sounds are actually based on samples of Mariellas voice.

Klobrille, a song by Mister 92 on Spotify

mister 92 - Scheisse / Alleine

Until we hit the studio, a guitar-centered singer-songwriter production was planned, what was overthrown the very first  studio day after the artist showed me some rather electronic ideas from the night before. So we hung out with a DX7-II and Nord Lead a lot. Good stuff! Throughout, we always tried to keep all music as text-centered as possible.

Mary Jane, a song by Well Done Boys on Spotify

Goldstück - Fliegen

On this album, I just love all those colours from the many instruments they use to illustrate their little stories! If songwriter Peter has the idea of a drunken marching band passing by - he simply makes sure he gets it! We took most instruments in a live session and let the further arrangement ideas flow during dubbing. Great people and fun to work with.

Mary Jane, a song by Well Done Boys on Spotify

Well Done Boys - Well Done Boys

Love that attitude and commitment lead singer and guitarist Örzan brings in this. This one was recorded 100% live off the studio floor. The idea was to have a demo at least, but everybody loved the session and its outcome so they decision was clear to release it. We had some great vintage amps, a nice setup and the band was pumped to play, what do you need more!

Nurahka, a song by Haisham on Spotify

Haisham - Odihanu

Three Maldivian vocalists and songwriters that flew over here to make me arrange and produce their songs. What a thrill to dig in to their signature Dhivehi sound with the great voice of singer Haisham. Great times we had producing this World/Reggae album. This was the first project that let me combine my passion for exploring different cultures with my love for music production.

Klangkantine studio concerts

Together with the team at Klangkantine Studios, I regulary host private invitation-only shows for about 50 guests in our Studio A. And we had the pleasure to have some great artists come by! Its such a great thing to have great live music with an audience in the same room you usually work and create, always gets your head back to the roots of things.
